With all the weather-proof technologies going into outdoor wear these days many customers have asked us to tell them about denier and how it interacts with Gore-Tex. Here is our explanation:
This image nicely depicts how Gore-Tex is a layered system. Denier is a unit of measure to describe the density of a fiber. Typically the higher the denier the stronger/more durable the fabric. Gore-Tex trademark breath ability happens in the membrane, the second layer. Here are examples of Winter seasons' jackets and their associated deniers:
