Patagonia Holiday Gift Ideas - Round 2

We've got a few more gift ideas for you.  Our store has been really busy and popular Patagonia items are selling out nationwide.  We are selling out of a few limited items but we tracked the trends early so we still have a full range of colors and sizes of all of our most popular items.

Our best-selling Half Mass courier bag is built for bike commuters and perfectly sized for a day's worth of gear.   It now comes in a new "mini-mass" size as well, for smaller computers, ipads, etc.
The total Betty deserves a gift as cute as she is. Our pick: The Down Sweater Vest. Whether she wears it as a layering piece or paired with a skirt and boots, the Down Sweater Vest will warm her right up!

The women's fjord flannel is sold out online and has been our single most popular sku this season. We reordered early so we have all colors and sizes available in stock.  We're not able to reorder any more though so they won't last long.

He's half your size but he plays outside twice as long.  He needs a jacket that keeps him warm and dry.  We have expanded our kids' selections and we are now carrying a full line of Patagonia for all ages.

We have a fresh crop of sweaters in stock.  The lambswool sweater wears skin-friendly and smooth while moderating core temperature, resisting odor and maintaining its shape through days of fun-hogging.

The very popular Patagonia Trucker Hat is a slam dunk gift for anyone on your list...

The perfect stocking stuffer: Patagonia socks!  The footbed is cushioned and insulated and the moisture-wicking performance lasts the lifetime of the sock.
It's really unfair. Why do women get all of the fancy underpants?  Not here.  Patagonia silkweight boxers are silky soft and downright luxurious.

The Seabreaks dress has gained its popularity because it looks good on everyone and is a versatile dress for your Patagonia girl.
The best news about our holiday gift list?  At Patagonia @ Bend, every purchase that you make qualifies you for Personal Rewards points. After you spend $250, you get a $25 personal reward store credit!

Looking for Holiday Gift Ideas?  We've got a few staff favorites that might help you out.

Want a slam dunk Christmas gift?  A warm and cozy flannel is always a perfect gift.  We are fully stocked with colors and sizes of Buckshot Flannels for men and Fjord Flannels for men and women but they sell out every year so come in early for the best selection.
The Nano Puff Jacket has been incredibly popular this season.  The Nano is very lightweight, synthetic insulation that is warm, windproof, water-resistant and packable.  This jacket is perfect for sports from fly fishing and cycling to backpacking, hiking and snow sports...  or just for the long walk from their car to the brewery.  (Available in men's and women's styles.)
One reviewer said, "This is one of the best jackets, by one of the best companies EVER. I've only had it a few weeks and it has already become my winter go to, all my other jackets hang sadly next to the door wishing they were as well loved as the nano puff."

For winter sports, you can't find better long underwear than Capilene. Patagonia set the standard for long underwear 25 years ago and they have continuously improved upon a great thing. It has been designed to be loftier, lighter, a better cut, and to smell better after a sweaty workout - a gift to us all.
Capilene (and wool) long underwear come in various weights, styles and colors. Come on in and we can tell you the differences to help you figure out which style they'd like the best.
A reviewer said,  "I look for well designed, well sewn products that serve multiple purposes - and the cap3 zip t is remarkable in this regard. As an endurance athlete this piece is the workhorse underlayer. When traveling I save space, as I wear the cap3 zip t one day as casual wear (because it looks good and is comfortable) then the next day I wear it for my run, ski, or bike ride... If you limit yourself to just one under layer - this is the one."

Does someone on your list return absolutely everything? We've got you covered. There is a reason that the Patagonia Down Sweater is our most purchased and least returned item in the store. This jacket has it all. It's flattering, warm, lightweight and perfect for Bend's climate. Try one on. You'll see what we mean.  We have a great stock of fresh new colors so you can brighten up their winter.

Our ski line is looking sweet this season.  Our most popular and versatile hardshell jacket is the Powder Bowl, a 2-layer jacket built with tough GORE-TEX® fabric for the best in waterproof/breathable protection in all conditions.

Great to throw on over jeans or the perfect way to dress up a night out. The Fiona Jacket or the Ultralight Fiona Jacket (shown) is a sure thing.

The Black Hole Duffel is water-resistant and super durable to stand up to the toughest travels.  If you are travelling for the holidays, this is the best way to protect your gear.

The Re-Tool pullover is cute, cozy and will warm her right up on cold winter days.

Our most popular insulated ski jacket this year is definitely the Rubicon Rider. This jacket is durable and well insulated for the cold, windy lift ride but is soft, smooth and flexible for when she's tearing up the slopes.
This jacket has all of the bells and whistles: underarm venting, easy-glide liner, removable powder skirt, handwarmers, a media pocket and secure inner pockets.
Need more gift ideas?  Stop by the shop.  We love talking about Patagonia clothing and gear and can definitely point you in the right direction.

Pyro For Snow, The Wonder-onzie is Afoot (Look For it Tonight at Valhalla!)...

Mary, Krystal, Camera, and the Wonder-onzie welcomed winter in style at the Pyro For Snow celebration put on by Crow's Feet. It wouldn't have been the seasons first snow party without an appearance by the Wonder-onsie.

Although it was rad to see the Palage and Snowshot (pictured in the center of the mosaic) in the fashion show, it was particularly awesome when the Wonder-onsie poached a spot on the run way...

For a sighting of the Wonder-onsie tonight go to the premier of Valhalla at Volcanic Theater Pub, 7pm 12/14$ pre-show (at the Plankery till 5pm), door.

Ode to the Houdini

The Houdini has cast a spell on Patagoina@Bend staff and customers alike. Condensing into an integrated stuff sack the size of a baseball with the weight of a handful of feathers, it is easy enough to bring along for any outing. Useful for virtually any purpose from fall shopping downtown, to bike commuting and hiking, utilizing this piece only when trail running would be a travesty. With rip-stop nylon and a DWR (durable water repellent) coating you can bet on preparedness for any unpredictable elements from a downpour mid bicycle ride to throwing bows while making last minute Christmas purchases.

Recently, Bend resident and loyal customer Megan Minkiewicz shared a story about the Houdini that was so inspiring, we had to print it. Megan was out for a run on a Sunday in October (it started with a sunny mild temperature and turned into a blustery chilly downpour). She was so stoked to have the Houdini tucked away in forgotten pocket. She recalled thinking the jacket seemed to lightweight to protect from the elements, however, after her afternoon epic, she relented. To boot, the very next day a gale and associated precipitation set in while Megan was shopping downtown, and her Houdini was there for her again.
Thanks to Megan for being a prime example of the Houdini's versatility.
Just saying, Houdini is a favorite for nearly all incumbent weather occasions.

Pistil: A Hat for Every Occasion

Patagonia Bend just received our latest shipment of Pistil's winter accessories line and Kalie is stoked about their hats! Have a look at the styles below with some text about the fit from the makers themselves!

Knit Brims:
Beanies with a short brim – and an element of street sass. Some fit close to the head, while others have a higher volume crown for hip, retro style. The knit fabrication lends itself to colder times of year, making them nice transition pieces from the cotton and woven hats you’ve been wearing all summer. Some are fleece-lined. All are super popular, and very comfy.

 Slouch:
Beanies with the dial set for relaxed appeal. We make them with brims and without, and most can be shaped, draped, and folded as you please. Very current, very relaxed, some have a pom-pom topper, and most stuff easily into your pocket or bag.
 Beanies:
Classic, brimless, head-hugging shapes, each designed with respect to its materials and function. We offer an abundant selection, so consider the yarn used, its stretch, whether it has a lining or not, its style, and the intended use. Beanies meant for colder weather are made with a deeper crown so they can pulled down over the ears for maximum warmth.

Have no fear, Denier is here!

With all the weather-proof technologies going into outdoor wear these days many customers have asked us to tell them about denier and how it interacts with Gore-Tex. Here is our explanation:

This image nicely depicts how Gore-Tex is a layered system. Denier is a unit of measure to describe the density of a fiber. Typically the higher the denier the stronger/more durable the fabric. Gore-Tex trademark breath ability happens in the membrane, the second layer. Here are examples of Winter seasons' jackets and their associated deniers:

Special thanks to our model, Anthony.

A recent addition to the library of books available at Patagonia Bend is:
Climbing Fitz Roy 1968

October First Friday Art Walk: Happy to Host Local Landscape Photography and Brews!

Patagonia@Bend was pleased to welcome back photographer Mike Putnam as our hallmark artist and Phat Matt's brewery out of Redmond! Putnam was excited to release two new pieces, one of Mt Bachelor and another of Tumalo Falls, both in winter scapes. He was well received by the many patrons who viewed his work.

Hosting a brewery each Art Walk during summer 2013 was such a success we plan to continue the program through the winter. Phat Matt's was sure to bring a large supply of brews which meant every customer who wanted to try a sample had the opportunity. Greg (VP of Operations), wife Alesha, and  Damon (Marketing Guru) did a great job answering questions and informing customers about their Kolsh and Red.

HOWEVER, our biggest thanks goes out to all the visitors who came to the shop last night. At least 70% of you sported Patagoina gear which pleases us to no end! Join us on future First Friday's when we will be hosting Old Mill Brew Works and Hop Valley. See more photos of Art Walk and tag yourself at our facebook page!

Back by popular demand: Black Hole Bags

Hey guys–
We just stocked our shelves with Black Hole bags including duffles, backpacks and messenger bags. Whether you need a small 45-liter duffle for your gym clothes or 120-liter bag for a weeklong getaway, we got em'.
What makes these bags awesome is that they are made of a super strong polyester that is then laminated and treated with DWR (durable water repellency) so that it is effectively waterproof. Additionally, the zippers and seams are water-resistant to further protect your gear from the outside elements.
The duffle series offers four sizes including 45L, 60L, 90L and 120L. Each includes internal pockets for smaller items as well as external daisy chains for when you need to tie on extra equipment. With the exception of the 45L, the duffle bags include detachable backpack straps making your travels even more comfortable.
Besides the duffles, the series includes a 22-liter messenger bag and 35-liter backpack. Both can fit a 17" laptop and include internal pockets to organize smaller items like your keys and phone. I personally use my Black Hole backpack on a daily basis, whether I'm commuting via bike or hiking up one of the many trails in the area. The hydration compatible backpack is comfortable on my shoulders and sits well at my hips. The best part about it is that I never need to worry about my gear getting wet if I get caught in the rain.
Stop in the store and check out the line. As usual, an array of enticing colors will meet you at the door.

Keeping Warm as the Seasons Change

Painted Hills, Oregon. Photo Courtesy by Mary Moynihan.

Clearly it's been a while since any of us over at Patagonia@Bend has posted. That doesn't mean we forgot about you, and we hope you didn't forget us either. That said, let's jump back in, shall we?
A few weeks back I headed out east to Oregon’s Painted Hills. For those who haven’t been, it’s a unique landscape, one of spectacular color and geological interest. It was a cold afternoon when I arrived, with temperatures in the lower twenties. Later at camp, when the last trace of sunlight faded, it dropped even lower. As someone who runs on the colder side, this trip wouldn’t have been very enjoyable if I hadn’t been accompanied by Patagonia’s Fitz Roy. With a generous dose of 800-fill down insulation, the windproof jacket sealed the warmth in and the cold out.
